Description
Antique Oscar Schlegelmilch Germany Hexagonal Creamer - Iron Red & Gold Gilt Chinoiserie - c.1900, Beehive Mark An exquisite antique porcelain creamer (milk jug) manufactured by the renowned Oscar Schlegelmilch factory in Langewiesen, Thuringia, Germany. This piece features a striking and rare hexagonal faceted form, presenting distinct geometric angles that beautifully contrast its traditional decoration. The body is hand-embellished in a vibrant Imari-style palette consisting of rich iron-red (rust), muted grey, and soft orange floral patterns. The design is framed by intricate fish-scale geometric borders and heavily accented with brilliant, raised gold gilt highlights along the panels, rim, and elegant loop handle. Maker's Mark Details The Stamp: Features the authentic Oscar Schlegelmilch underglaze blue beehive (or bullet) mark on the underside of the base. Historical Context: This mark was utilized by the factory following its 1891–1892 founding to denote high-quality decorated porcelain lines. Depending on the orientation, collectors alternately refer to this specific geometric stamp as a stylized uppercase L (for the Langewiesen location) or a beehive shield. Specifications: Manufacturer: Porzellanfabrik Oscar Schlegelmilch (Langewiesen, Thuringia, Germany) Era: Late Victorian / Edwardian (Circa 1892–1912) Material: Fine German hard-paste porcelain Colorway: Rust Red, Grey, Orange, and Gold Gilt Form: Paneled hexagonal creamer pitcher with a pinched spout
