Antique WWI-era Black Binoculars

This pair of antique French field binoculars (or compact opera glasses) is equipped with a built-in compass mounted on the central bridge and are made by the Famous French maker Champier. These optics were manufactured in Paris, France, which was the leading global center for high-quality consumer optical manufacturing during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The body features a black lacquer/enamel finish over a brass chassis, wrapped in a textured leather or vulcanite grip. The eyepiece rims are stamped with French markings (including Paris). The small, functional compass integrated into the central hinge indicates that these were intended for outdoor field use, hiking, military use, or sporting events, rather than strictly indoor theater use. They typically date from the Late Victorian era to World War I (circa 1890–1918). The original leather neck strap is still attached. These binoculars are in great pre-loved condition showing normal vintage wear from age and use. A great collector piece or usable accessory. Also a great display piece. Smoke free home.
