【 Tono-go Hachiman Shrine 】 May Limited Monthly Goshuin
【Details】
Tono-go Hachiman Shrine is a historic shrine founded in 1189 by Asonuma Hirona, who was granted Tono-go by Minamoto no Yoritomo. He built it to enshrine Hachiman-shin, his clan deity, and it has been deeply revered by the local community as the guardian shrine of Tono-go.
With a history of over 800 years, this shrine enshrines Emperor Ojin as its principal deity and is known for enshrining Gongensama, who appears in 110 tales of Tono Monogatari (The Tales of Tono).
It is also a unique shrine that has established a Cat Shrine enshrining Otorasama, the principal deity, attracting many visitors seeking blessings for good health, longevity, recovery from illness, traffic safety, and general well-being.
The shrine keeps multiple cats, having rescued a tabby cat named Tora (Oto-ra) who was once a stray. Tora served as the fifth shrine cat and became a popular signboard cat.
