◆About Nib Manufacturers◆
The currently available Japanese nib brands are Tachikawa, Nikko, and Zebra.
Nikko brand was inherited by Tachikawa, so there are only two manufacturers: Tachikawa and Zebra.

There are stories that older products have better performance.
During the period of high economic growth, around 1985 (Showa 60), the production of dip pen nibs was an astronomical figure of 1 million gross (1 gross = 144 pieces).
However, with the changing times, government offices and banks have also shifted to ballpoint pens.

Nibs:
In the past, the number of nibs produced was large, and many were manufactured by a large workforce, including many skilled workers.
It is said that they still use the same manufacturing machines from that era.
The number of workers has drastically decreased, and many of the workers who manufactured during the mass production era were highly skilled.
We have heard that products from that era are better, but please take this as a reference only.

Also, chrome-colored nibs have less deterioration and are said to retain their original performance even today.
Tachikawa, the current major nib manufacturer, is a trusted brand and one of my favorite nibs.
