Description

I believe this is Karatsu ware.
This item belonged to my grandmother, who had connections with pottery kilns.

Karatsu ware is a type of pottery characterized by its rough, simple texture, diverse decorative techniques such as iron painting, brush strokes, and斑唐津 (madara-karatsu), and the beauty of utility that deepens with use. The charm of Karatsu ware also lies in the spirit of wabi-sabi, which finds beauty in imperfection, such as its natural expression free from artificiality, fingerprints, and marks from shaping the foot.
