[Features of Aizu Lacquerware]
Aizu lacquerware is a traditional technique passed down in the Aizu region.
During the Aizu domain era, great efforts were made towards technological innovation, developing into such superb techniques that they were exported to countries like China and the Netherlands.
Currently designated as a traditional craft by the country, it produces lacquerware with diverse techniques such as Raden (mother-of-pearl inlay), Urushi-e (lacquer painting), Kanshitsu (dry lacquer), Makie (gold powder decoration), and Hananuri (flower coating).
We are engaged in the development of lacquerware that incorporates functions required in modern life within tradition, including tableware compatible with dishwashers.
Makie... A method of decorating the surface of lacquerware by drawing flowers and patterns with lacquer or paint, and then sprinkling gold or colored powder onto it to express the design.
