Chickpeas are uncommon in Japan but popular overseas. They are rich in dietary fiber and protein, and the powdered form, known as besan flour, is used in cooking in places like India.

In my household, we got hooked on cooking with besan flour as a substitute for kinako (roasted soybean flour) or wheat flour.

It's also easy to save your own seeds, so it's a good idea to harvest seeds each year and continue growing them.
They prefer dry environments. They grow better with less rain. I've heard they are drought-tolerant.
