This year, let's grow edamame! Addictive flavor! Rare variety "Kurakake Edamame" seeds, 50+ grains
Introducing a unique edamame variety! These beans have a pattern resembling a black saddle placed on a green bean.
Kurakake Mame (Saddle-Hanging Beans) are a local vegetable from Nagano Prefecture. They are rare due to low production volume, and their name comes from the black markings that look like a saddle on a horse's back. They are rich in dietary fiber and vitamin B6. Kurakake Mame are a type of green soybean, and can be eaten as edamame if harvested before full maturity. They have a luxurious, addictive taste with a nori-like flavor and the natural sweetness of soybeans, with a satisfyingly firm and chewy texture.
They are lower in fat than regular soybeans and rich in beta-carotene, protein, polyphenols, calcium, iron, vitamin B6, and dietary fiber, making them ideal for dieting and relieving constipation. The beans are flat and round, with a rare yellow and black speckled pattern. They are a prolific and visually appealing, delicious bean.
They are a late-maturing variety, ripening in late October, and produce lovely purple flowers.
Yield is comparable to regular soybeans, with good uniformity of seeds.
[Cultivation Tips]
In cooler regions, sow from early to mid-May to mid-June, and harvest from mid-September to early or mid-October.
In warmer regions (flat, warm areas), sow from late May to early July, and harvest in November.
They grow vigorously with long stems and branches that tend to spread easily, making them prone to lodging and vining. Therefore, reduce fertilizer (especially nitrogen-based).
*Soybeans have root nodules (rhizobia) that fix atmospheric nitrogen and produce their own fertilizer. If nitrogen fertilizer is applied like other crops, the plants tend to grow lush foliage but produce few beans.
Avoid over-fertilizing the soil or planters beforehand. Top-dressing after flowering is effective for bean development.
To prevent lodging and vining, avoid sowing too early and overcrowding. Encourage mounding of soil.
Due to last year's extreme heat, the harvest of Kurakake Mame was drastically reduced, and only a very small amount is available as seeds.
To allow everyone to enjoy growing edamame, we are offering 50 seeds for ¥480 (including shipping via fourth-class mail).
If you are considering cultivation, please purchase early.
*Seed size may vary slightly depending on harvesting conditions. (This year, the seeds are uniform in size.)
