Description
Scientific Name: Nephilia sp.
Common Names: Golden silk orb-weavers, golden orb-weavers, giant wood spiders, or banana spiders
The genus Nephila is a group of spiders known for constructing impressive webs. Many species found in warm regions worldwide are included in the Nephila genus, although some species previously classified under Nephila have now been moved to Trichonephila. They are commonly referred to as golden silk orb-weavers, golden orb-weavers, giant wood spiders, and banana spiders.
The genus name Nephila originates from Ancient Greek, meaning liking to spin, derived from the words νεν (nein) = to spin (related to ν?μα (nema) thread) + φ?λο? (philos) = loving.
