☆Red Moon Characteristics☆

Red Moon is a Western potato variety that was registered under the Plant Variety Protection and Seed Act on February 21, 1991.

It is a variety that was born from seeds collected from artificial cross-pollination of seeds (origin unknown) purchased by Sakata Seed Corporation in 1982 from the American seed company Pan-American Seed Company, and then selecting individuals with superior characteristics from them.

The name was originally Red Echo, and it was named Red Moon because its red skin resembles the moon in shape. Although it is not a recommended variety in any prefecture, it has distinctive potato characteristics and is suitable for home gardening.

Starch content is about 14-15%, peel browning is minimal, discoloration after cooking is minimal, reducing sugar content is low, skin color is red, flesh color is yellow, taste is unknown, meat quality is sticky, boiling down is almost none, shape is oval, eye depth is shallow, wilting period is late-maturing, and dormancy period is about 50 days.

Disease and pest resistance: Susceptible to potato cyst nematode, weak to late blight, strong to early blight, weak to scab, weak to secondary growth, and weak to heat tolerance.
