Description
This set of 9 chasing hammers (tagane) for repoussé work is designed for creating pieces around 20mm to 30mm in size and includes the minimum basic tagane necessary for chasing.

For larger pieces, larger tagane will be required, and for detailed work, smaller tagane are needed.
In addition to this set, there are several other types of chasing tagane available.

We hope you will use this tagane set as a sample and create tagane according to your needs.
(Many tagane are mixed with tsukuri tagane depending on the school of thought, such as bouzu and natsume, and the names and usage of each tagane also vary slightly.)

From left to right:
① Outline Punch Tagane, Tip 0.9mm?: Used for creating outlines.
② Yose Tagane (Gathering Hammer), Striking Surface 4.4mm x 5.1mm: Used to raise the metal outside the outline. Size and shape vary depending on the application.
③ ④ Namekuri Tagane (Smoothing Hammer) (Large Striking Surface 2.1mm x 4.7mm, Small Striking Surface 1.3mm x 2.6mm): Used to create steps and outlines.
⑤ ⑥ Tsukuri Tagane (Shaping Hammer) (Flat Striking Surface 2.0mm x 2.1mm, Round Striking Surface 2.3mm x 2.3mm): Used to create raised and sunken areas inside the outline. Size and shape vary depending on the application.
(The round type can also be substituted with commercially available ya bouzu tagane.)

Only the tsukuri tagane have been roughened with a flat file for grip.
Depending on the school of thought, some yose and narashi tagane may also be roughened.
If you find it easier to use with roughening, please add it as needed.

⑦ Soba Yose Tagane (Side Gathering Hammer), Striking Surface width 2.3mm: Used in narrow areas.
⑧ Narashi Tagane (Flattening Hammer), Striking Surface 2.0mm x 2.4mm: Used to flatten rough surfaces. Shape and size vary depending on the application (round, oval, square, etc.).
⑨ Kiri Tagane (Cutting Hammer), Blade width 3.6mm: Hardened and tempered. Used to separate the metal sheet from the main body.

We also accept individual sales (custom orders), so please feel free to contact us.
As the prices of the tagane materials vary, the prices for individual sales will also vary (from 970 yen to 1100 yen).

For repoussé work, you will also need commercially available pitch blocks, otahuku hammers, scrapers, etc.

If you would like the video of the repoussé production process using the Akata Gane chasing hammer set, we will offer a discount on shipping. Please contact us before purchasing.
