For the Reidan of a Kuri-dashi Ihai (pull-out memorial tablet), it is common to write ○○ Family Ancestors of Generations. In the case of Jodo Shinshu, to avoid expressions like spirit or soul, it is generally written as ○○ Family Ancestors of Generations.
How to write and points to note:
1. The first tablet (front tablet)
This is usually written as ○○ Family Ancestors of Generations.
In the case of Jodo Shinshu, it is written as ○○ Family Ancestors of Generations or ○○ Family's Ihai.
It is common not to write anything on the back.
This tablet is placed at the very front for veneration.
2. Second tablet and onwards
The deceased's Kaimyo (Buddhist name/Homyō), date of death, secular name, and age (at death) are written.
If you have an older Ihai, it is best to refer to its layout.
