Onta ware (Onta-yaki) is traditional pottery from Oita, Japan, with over 300 years of history. It is still handmade today using traditional methods and was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan in 1995. Traditionally, Onta marks (“おんた” or “小鹿田”) are used instead of individual potter signatures or names. Older Onta ware from the mid-to-late Showa period (1950s–1980s) often has a heavier, thicker body and a darker clay tone than newer/modern pieces. ● Reference: This is a vintage pre-owned piece kept on display in a home for decades. Some vintage Onta ware pieces are listed for $300 or more. ★Free shipping for this item! ★Packed with great care – ships from AZ, USA!
