Mt. Mitake Kinkura Shrine - Insect-Repelling Bell - Earthenware Bell - Yamanashi Prefecture - Amulet - Exorcism - Local Toy - Traditional Craft - Folk Craft
This is an earthenware bell traditionally awarded at Mt. Mitake Kinkura Shrine, believed to ward off kan-no-mushi (childhood ailments attributed to spirits) and thus called an insect-repelling bell.
It consists of five unglazed, golden earthenware bells, each about 2cm in size, tied together with a string. It was said to be hung in children's bedrooms or from their waists, and when the bell broke, it signified that the kan-no-mushi had been cured (cut off), bringing joy.
Diameter: Approx. 2cm
