Antique JPL Pouyat Limoges France Hand Painted Orange Poppy Porcelain Plate
Limoges
JPL initials on the back of plate stand for Jean Pouyat Limoges, one of the most prominent highly quality porcelain manufacturers. The Pouyat Family factory was one of the most prominent and highly respected manufacturers of fine French porcelain in Limoges, France. The green under glaze stamp JPL France was applied to the raw white porcelain before the final firing. It served as a guarantee of structural quality before the piece was decorated. This hallmark was used from 1891 until 1932. The plate features a stunning hand painted Art Nouveau design of vibrant two orange poppies surrounded by lush green leaves. One in full bloom and one partially open. Vibrant painted green leaves with soft shading and thorny winding vines that loop along the bottom edge. A delicate blended wash of pale cream, soft sky blue near the center, a faint pink accent along the right edge. The plate has a gently scalloped un-gilded rim that gives the piece a soft organic outline. Excellent condition. 1890s
