Katsuhiko Yoshida [Lullaby] Copperplate Etching, Limited Edition of 80

Katsuhiko Yoshida's Lullaby is a poetic work in contemporary copperplate engraving.

Katsuhiko Yoshida was an artist active in the post-war Japanese printmaking world, known for expressing his inner world through serene interior scenes and still lifes.

As the title Lullaby suggests, this work depicts a scene of a silent night. The white vessels and daily objects that emerge against the dark background imbue the monochrome world with deep poetic sentiment. The arched opening in the center serves as a symbolic gateway, reminiscent of memory or dreams, stimulating the viewer's imagination.

The delicate lines created by the etching technique, characteristic of copperplate engraving, and the rich tonal gradation achieved through aquatint, masterfully evoke the silence and tranquility of the night. The vessels and tools placed in the foreground, while fragments of daily life, symbolically represent the gentle world of sleep evoked by a lullaby.
