Large Vintage Blue Spongeware Wash Pitcher & Basin Bowl Set Stoneware Pottery

Beautiful large vintage blue spongeware wash pitcher basin set, featuring rich cobalt-blue sponge decoration over a warm cream-colored ground with hand-applied blue banding. The pitcher has a classic flared pouring lip, gracefully curved handle, and rounded body. The coordinating basin features sponge decoration around the broad rim and exterior, with a particularly attractive decorated center medallion. Together they make an impressive traditional washstand set. Both pieces are unmarked. The form and decoration are consistent with American-style spongeware pottery, but the exact manufacturer and date have not been confirmed. Approximate measurements: Pitcher: 11½12 tall at highest point Basin: 14 diameter Condition: The set displays beautifully and has age-related wear consistent with vintage pottery. The pitcher has brown/rust-colored staining at the bottom of the interior, which has been gently cleaned but remains visible. The basin has three hairline cracks, shown in the photographs. There is additional normal surface wear and variation associated with age and handmade/decorated pottery. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description. A wonderful statement piece for a farmhouse, country, primitive, cottage or traditional interior, and an attractive addition to a collection of blue-and-white pottery, spongeware or vintage washstand pieces. The pitcher and basin will be carefully packed for shipping. Non smoking home.
