Description
This is a French antique from the 1700s, known as a Western wooden playing card.
It is the King of Diamonds with CEZAR inscribed, and the overall color tone is subdued, creating a wonderful atmosphere.
Many wooden playing cards have writing on the back, and searching online reveals images similar to photos 9 and 10, but the details are unknown.
It was purchased in France by my father around 1960, and was reportedly sold framed.
Only the backing board has been replaced with a new one.
The playing card measures approximately 8 x 5.2 cm.
The frame measures approximately 13 x 10.8 cm.
Thank you for looking.
