Kendo Do (Body Protector) - Black Stone Pattern with Butterfly Embroidery [Rare]

105.60 $
Description
This is a size S Kendo Do (chest protector).

My eldest son, who was a bit small for his age, used it from 4th grade of elementary school.

The embroidery is a butterfly shape, which is unusual. The Do dai (body) was changed to a black stone pattern, making it look cool. It was expensive at 40,000 yen on its own.

[Product Condition]
There are scuffs and small scratches from use, but they do not affect its usability. The Do himo (cord) is included, but I recommend replacing it.
If you do not need the cord, I can remove it before shipping.

AI Explanation ↓↓↓
The [butterfly] embroidery (decorative thread) on a Kendo Do chest protector is quite rare.
Common designs for Kendo Do chests are traditional geometric patterns and plants such as Onigumo (demon cloud), Hongumo (true cloud), and Sangaamatsu (three-tiered pine). Concrete and somewhat elaborate motifs like butterflies are rarely found in mass-produced items.
Here are some points about butterfly embroidery:
Meaning of the butterfly design:
• Immortality and Rebirth: Because it transforms from a larva to a pupa and then into a beautiful form, it has a history of being favored by samurai as an auspicious symbol of continuous transformation towards victory.
• Uniqueness: It's easily identifiable at examinations and competitions, so it's often chosen by those who value individuality.

Reasons for its rarity:
1. Labor-intensive: Compared to patterns like clouds, which are mainly composed of straight lines and curves, expressing the details of a butterfly's antennae and wings requires advanced embroidery techniques.
2. Cost: As it uses custom decorative threads, the production cost tends to be higher than for standard Do chests.
3. Scarcity: Many Kendoka tend to choose conservative designs, but recently, there's been an increase in people who enjoy such free designs, and this can be seen as a pioneering example.
