Han Kan Horse Herding Picture Tapestry Scroll

This is a hanging scroll woven in imitation of the Horse Taming Picture (牧馬図), believed to have been painted by the Chinese artist Han Gan (韓幹). The texture of the artwork resembles embroidery.

仿古藝術緙絲 is a type of weaving known as Kyo-ori (綴織), characterized by its ability to express free and rich designs, much like a painting. It is said to have been woven in ancient China as well.
The depicted Han Gan's Horse Taming Picture (韓幹牧馬圖) is a painting attributed to Han Gan, an artist from China's Tang Dynasty. It is currently part of the Collected Masterpieces (名繪集珍冊) housed in the National Palace Museum in Taipei. It is said that Emperor Huizong of the Northern Song Dynasty inscribed it, confirming it as Han Gan's authentic work. This piece is designated as a national treasure of Taiwan as a valuable artwork that conveys the painting style of the Tang Dynasty.
