Premium Tsumugi Silk, Diamond Pattern, Indigo Blue, With Sample Swatch, Exquisite Item, Indigo
This is a beautiful Tsumugi silk kimono, likely from a high-end origin, but unfortunately, it comes without a certificate of authenticity and its origin is unknown.
The kimono appears to be indigo-dyed Tsumugi silk with a diamond-shaped pattern. The絣 (kasuri) pattern resembles hand-tied dyeing, though it lacks the thickness of Yumi-hama kasuri. The design, with its transparent blue-indigo color and single-color white kasuri, is refreshingly crisp!
The navy lining (八掛 - hagake) is also sharp and stylish.
It is made of pure silk, not cotton. While the kasuri pattern might suggest Kumejima or Ryukyu kasuri dyed with Ryukyu indigo, it's impossible for an amateur to tell, so it's priced accordingly.
A fabric scrap is included, but without a certificate, please judge from the images!
This kimono would pair beautifully with a stencil-dyed obi, batik, Hakata obi, or even an indigo x indigo or indigo x white obi. A muted light blue salt-glazed (塩瀬 - shioze) Nagoya obi would also be lovely.
It's a versatile kimono that can easily be matched with many of your existing obi! Indigo is said to beautifully enhance Japanese skin tones!
As it's priced very affordably, please feel free to use this kimono of unknown origin for everyday wear!
