Samurai Tobiguchi - Edo Period - Ultra Antique - Old Tool - Preserved Item

[Product Description]
This is a preserved antique Tobiguchi from the Edo period.

A Tobiguchi is a tool with an iron tip shaped like a kite's beak attached to the end of a long pole.
A metal fitting, resembling the beak of a kite from which it gets its name, is attached to the end of a wooden pole.
It is used for moving, transporting, and stacking lumber such as logs and raw timber, as well as for dismantling and moving wooden buildings (house moving). In the Edo period, it was used by the town fire brigades, organized around鳶職 (tobishoku - carpenters/firefighters), for firefighting operations. By using the Tobiguchi to pull down surrounding buildings, they prevented the spread of fire (destructive firefighting). The Tobiguchi is still used today in competitions for modern firefighting techniques and for the ladder-balancing performances of 鳶職.
